Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into music production has transformed traditional workflows, introducing automated systems for mixing, mastering, and composition. However, the balance between automation and human creative control remains a critical challenge. This paper examines the role of human oversight in AI-assisted music production, proposing a framework for determining which stages of mixing and composition should be automated and which require human aesthetic judgment. Through analysis of current AI music production systems, human-AI collaboration models, and evaluation methodologies, this study identifies key principles for hybrid workflows that preserve human agency while leveraging computational efficiency. The findings suggest that effective human oversight depends on task complexity, user expertise, system transparency, and the nature of creative decisions involved. This framework provides audio researchers and practitioners with guidelines for implementing AI tools that enhance rather than replace human creativity in music production.
